If I had a ball for every time I was out on a walk and someone said, “Wow!, you have beautiful, shiny black hair! You look so young and handsome. Is it your food? What are you eating?” I would have a lot more balls than I have now. I am a little shy when I get praised like that, but I also jump up and give that person a chance to pet me.
I’ll let you in in the secret to my shiny hair: It’s not that I do anything special. Eat, play, love, and sleep. You know I play a lot. I get to go outside and run around almost every day. I also get to sleep a lot. I sleep on a nice warm sofa in the winter and on a nice cool metal plate in the summer (more on that in a future post). Let me tell you what I eat.
My food is called Wanfoo. It is made from rabbit meat. Rabbits were a staple food back when our dog ancestors were still wild…you know, before they got to sleep on sofas. So Wanfoo is rabbit meat that is a natural food for dogs. It’s irresistible, though I have heard my vet say labs will eat anything…. When I hear the sound of my Wanfoo hitting the bowl, I start drooling without even knowing it. I heard some guy named Pavlov got famous for writing that down somewhere, but I don’t need a citation because I am a dog.
Anyway, I play well, sleep well, and eat well. And with this, my glossy hair is complete!. Mom also gets some credit. She combs my hair sometimes. I wish she would do it more often. I love this part of the day when Mom takes the comb to my hair.

散歩してると時々「黒ラブちゃ～ん、綺麗な毛ねぇ。つやつや！まだ若いのね。やっぱり食事かしら。何食べてるの？」って言われることがある。ちょっと照れるけど褒められて悪い気しない、えへへ。僕のつやつやヘアーの秘密教えてあげる。といっても特別なことしてるわけじゃない。いっぱい遊んでぐっすり寝ておいしく食べるってことぐらい。僕が外でよく遊ぶこと、暖かい部屋でぐっすり寝てるってことはもう皆知ってるよね。今日は僕が何食べてるか教えてあげる。
僕のフードは「ワンフー」。ウサギ肉が原料なんだって。僕たち犬の祖先がまだ野生でいた時はウサギ肉が主食だったんだって。だから「ワンフー」は犬の体に一番自然にあうウサギ肉を原料にしてるんだそう。ママが僕のお皿にワンフーを入れてくれるともうたまらない。僕の口からは知らない間によだれがたらーっと出てくる。
よく遊んでよく食べて、よく寝てよく食べる。これで僕のつやつやヘアーの完成！
あ、ママが「私が時々櫛を入れてあげるのもつやつやヘアーに貢献してるよね」って言ってる。そうだよ、そうだよ、だからもっとしょっちゅうやってね。僕はママに撫でてもらってるこの瞬間が大好き、幸せぇ～。
