I have some experience with the water, but last week was my first experience with a kayak. We took a weekend trip to Kushimoto in Wakayama prefecture. In Kushimoto, there is a river called Kozagawa where right by the station there is a place that will rent you (a person) a kayak, supply you with PFDs and take the Kayak upriver. It’s dog friendly too as they also offer PDFs to dogs.
I am used to rivers and I like them. But this was a big river… I am not used to those. So I was a bit excited to get wet and start this journey. Mom and Dad got in they Kayak and some guy pushed them into the water, but that was too slow for me, so I jumped out and started swimming. Apparently, that was a bad thing to do because we had to go back to shore and start over.
The river was quite nice with some fast parts. I kept looking left and looking right and Mom and Dad kept screaming every time I did because the Kayak would roll one way and then the other with my weight. But we figured out our rhythm and I jumped out a few times and we stopped a few times to play ball.
We got back to the main landing in a couple of hours. I was pretty hyped up on river water and had a lot of marking to do on roadsides over the next few hours!
