Mom and dad stare at a big square box every day. I can hear sounds from the box. From time to time, hear the voices of dogs that could be my friends…someone called me. Did a friend come? I look at this box and I can see some friends and hear them, but I can’t smell them. Gradually, I start to get sleepy.
Mom and dad are a lot like me: they like to pee before they go to bed. Even if I fall asleep before the big sleep, I will get up to go outside for one final pee. So I can’t get really comfortable at night until one of them takes me out.
Tonight is one of those nights when I want to go to be early. Mom and dad are sitting in front of that square box. There is noise coming from it, but I don’t hear any of my friends. To get their attention, I go by the door, look at them, and say “hyuuun.” It was just a little bit after dinner, so Mom and Dad looked at me and said, “Not yet Koro. It is too early.” Then they went back to ignoring me. I tried “hyuuuuuuun” this time and was met with another “not yet.” Last ditch effort, one more mighty “hyuuuuuuuuuun”. Dad finally stood up! Hooray!! I can finally go out and pee and then come back and sleep.
When we got back, they watched the square box a bit more while I dozed off while listening to its sounds. then a friend came out of the square box! Everyone was waiting for me to play!. We chased balls and wrestled and Mom and Dad were smiling and laughing. Once I got tired, I laid down and took break. The wind over my body felt so good!
The next day at breakfast, Mom asked me, “Koro, did you dream of playing with your friends? Your legs were moving quite a bit last night! You must have had a fun dream!”
Was it a dream? I can’t remember. I still feel the cool wind on my body though.
ママとパパは毎日、四角い箱をじーっと見てる。この箱から音が聞こえる。時々、僕の仲間達の声も聞こえてくる。友達が来たのかな？って思って僕は何度もこの箱を見るけど、何も出てこない。すごく不思議な箱だけど、僕にとってはそんなに楽しい箱じゃない。ママとパパがこの箱を見てる間、僕は退屈だ。。。
夜、そろそろ眠くなってきた。ママとパパは寝る前におしっこするんだよ！って言って、僕が寝てても絶対起こして外に連れて行く。だから僕は夜のおしっこをすますまでおちおち寝てられない。ママとパパは今夜も四角い箱をじ～っと見てる。早く寝る前のおしっこすませたいと思って「ひゅん」ってちょっと声をたててみる。でもママとパパは「まだだよぉ。待ってぇ」って言って、全然僕の方を見ない。もう一回「ひゅ～ん」って言ってみる。「まだだよぉ。」って同じ返事。僕はもう一回やってみる「ひゅ～ん」。やっとパパが立った！やった！僕はやっとおしっこに行ける。僕がおしっこすませて帰ってきたら、またママとパパは四角い箱を見てる。僕は四角い箱の音を聞きながら目をつぶる。そしたら四角い箱から仲間が出てきた！皆、僕がおしっこするまで待ってたんだ！僕たちはボールを追いかけて走った走った。レスリングもいっぱいした。ママとパパは僕を見て笑ってる。遊び疲れたから、横になって休憩。体の上をわたる風が気持ちいい。次の日、ママが僕に言う「コロ、友達と遊んだ夢見てたん？足がいっぱい動いてたよ！楽しい夢見てたんだね！」
