It was the last official day of summer vacation yesterday, so my Mom and Dad decided to make it special: We went to Miyama in Kyoto. This is one of my favorite places because I get to run free in a nice cool river. It has been about 40 degrees C (104F) lately, which makes my usual walks quite tiring. But here at the river, I can run for hours without taking a break.<\/p>\n

After a 90 minute drive where I did NOT get carsick (thank you very much), we parked and made our way down to the river. It was pretty crowded near the campsite there, but we walked a few minutes upstream to where we had a large area to ourselves. Mom and Dad threw my ball downstream, and I ran and got it. They threw my ball upstream and I ran and got it. They through it across the river and I ran and got it. I figured out the currents so I could use them to my advantage. Once I got the ball, I would let the current guide me back to where I could get to shore\u2026or the shallows. <\/p>\n

We played for about 2 hours. Sometimes I wanted to take a break, but I couldn\u2019t. I don\u2019t get enough of these opportunities to want to waste any time near the water. I am smart though: when I started to get tired, I would run along the shore before plunging into the river instead of just heading straight into the water. That saved some energy.<\/p>\n

And if you are wondering about that orange thing: it is not a dog PFD. Rather it is a water toy for dogs. It is supposed to help practice with water retrieval. However, it doesn\u2019t bounce. It doesn\u2019t squeeze so well, and it does not squeak at all when I bite it, so I don\u2019t find it such a fun toy. But Dad is good at re-purposing things. Since I can be hard to get a hold of when I am wet and excited, he thought it would make a good addition to the strap-handle connected to my collar. It keeps the handle floating and makes sure people can see me when swim up on them in silent-stalking mode!<\/p>\n

Once we got home, I got a bath (not my most favorite water pastime), then I slept for a few hours. Then I ate. Then I slept another 9 hours or so. That is just enough rest to recharge my battery to about 60%. A few more hours of sleep today and I should be ready for my next water adventure!<\/p>\n
